Finding an item

The entire New Library collection, with the exception of some older books in storage, is catalogued onto the Oxford Libraries Information System.

Periodicals

These are not yet catalogued onto OLIS, however, the list of periodicals held at Magdalen may be found here.

Access to the e-journals that Oxford University subscribes to is available here.

Location in the library

The collection is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme; books are given a Dewey number by its subject, usually followed by the first three letters of the author’s surname.  Oversize books are shelved separately, and are identified by “fol.” In the shelf-mark.  There is also a large collection of authors associated with Magdalen; these books have shelf-marks beginning “Magd.” and are shelved in the basement.  Please ask a member of staff if you need help finding an item.
