Information for college members

toEntrance to, and exit from, the New Library is by swipe-card, allowing college members 24 hour access in both term-time and vacation.  This freedom requires a corresponding self-discipline from users in respecting the collections, the borrowing procedures, the rules and the needs of other readers.

Catalogues

All items on the open shelves in the New Libray have been entered onto the University's combined catalogue, searchable at

SOLO

("Search Oxford Libraries Online"). You can use SOLO to find details of books or DVDs (limit your search to 'Audio Visual'). Use the right-hand search box to limit your search to Magdalen libraries, or search collections across the University.

SOLO also allows you to use hundreds of online databases through OxLip+ and Oxford University e-journals. By signing in to SOLO (top right of its home-page) using your Single Sign-On (the same details you use to access your University email account), you can use many of these e-resources remotely. Once signed in, you can also put a hold on an item so that it will be kept for you when the current borrower returns it, and renew items you have on loan by clicking on 'My Account'.

Computers

Student Working In Library

There are four public-access catalogue terminals in the New Library providing networked access to SOLO (see above).  Wi-fi is available throughout the library except in the basement; instructions are kept by the catalogue terminals on the ground floor. Printing is available from the library computers, although it is not possible to open and print word documents.  Note that you will need to bring your own paper.
