MC:P328 Hymn Tunes by Lewis Stacy Tuckwell (1839-1922)
The Revd. Lewis Stacey Tuckwell (1839–1922) was linked with Magdalen for thirty years variously as a Chorister (1847–57), Clerk (1857–63), Chaplain (1866–77), and Precentor (1869–77), the last post being effectively created for him. He also matriculated from Magdalen in 1857. In 1876-–1907 he was Rector of Standlake, a College living. His memoirs of Magdalen, Old Magdalen Days 1847–1877 (1913), are a valuable primary source for College life from this period.
This book of hymn tunes was given to the Archives in April 2009 as Accession No. 07/73 by Mrs. Sue Morris, whose grandfather had been a member of the Church Choir at Standlake in Tuckwell’s day.
Catalogued in April 2009.
