MC:F12 Papers of George Smith Gibbes (Fellow 1793-9)
How and when the manuscript arrived in the archives is unknown. George Smith Gibbes (1772-1851) matriculated at Exeter College in 1788 and obtained his BA in 1792. He was a Fellow at Magdalen College 1793-99. In 1795, he received his MA from Magdalen College and was admitted into the place of Medical Fellow. He obtained his MB in 1796 and his MD in 1799. Gibbes resigned his fellowship at Magdalen following his marriage in 1799. In 1804, he was appointed Physician to the General Hospital at Bath and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Gibbes was named Physician Extraordinary to Queen Charlotte in 1819 and knighted in 1820. He died in 1851.

An essay on fire, on fourteen leaves. In his essay, Gibbes makes frequent reference to early philosophers and to scientists of his time.
