MC:P157 Letters from C.S. Lewis to Evelyn Underhill
These letters were given to Magdalen College by the writer and broadcaster John Whale. He had been given them in 1973 by Mrs. Susannah Hodson, who had received them in turn from Mrs. Evelyn Stuart Moore. Mrs. Moore, better known by her maiden name, Evelyn Underhill, published extensively on mysticism.
These letters were given to the archives in March 2001 as Accession No. 01/59. Both letters are handwritten and signed by Lewis, and each one sheet long.

Letter from C.S. Lewis (written on headed notepaper from The Tudor Hotel, Malvern, which has been deleted with a note “As from Magdalen College, Oxford”) to Mrs. Stuart Moore, thanking her for her comments on his recently-published science-fiction novel Out of the Silent Planet.
This letter has been torn in half; it was in that condition when it reached Mr. Whale.
