MC:P261/MS10 Notebook of Sir Henry Jenner
The notebook’s provenance is unknown but it was presumably once in the possession of Dr. Routh. It turned up in the life of K. Turner who appears to have left for France shortly after the visitation.
The notebook appears to have been written by Sir Henry Jenner (one of the Commissioners investigating Magdalen) during and soon after the visitation of the Ecclesiastical Commission at Oxford. Notes were added by Dr. Routh. (Routh’s note is on the front pastedown.) There are 3 hands, one educated and the other 2 clerkly.
The notebook was written from both ends Fols. 1-46 from the front and Fols. 68-58 from the back. Fols. 47-58 are blank.
Fols. 1-41 and 58-68: relate to the affairs of Magdalen College in October and November 1687.
Fols. 42-46: contain occasional diary notes of the year 1689.
