MC:P174/J1 Diaries in Volume Form
For 1930–5, Hodgkinson tended to use a Collins Royal Diary, which has one day to a page, and seems to have kept it with great regularity. The later diaries are kept in a variety of notebooks. Hodgkinson tended to use his diaries more as a record of daily life than as an outlet for his emotions: entries therefore are very detailed, and provide much important information on undergraduate life at Magdalen in the 1930s. Hodgkinson notes the essays he wrote, the lectures he attended, the people he met, the books he read, the concerts he attended, and even what music he listened to on his gramophone.
