MC:P424/P1 – Photographs
MC:P424/P1/1 Early Summer 1954
Black & white photograph of choristers drinking bottles of pop in front of a bus. A Post-it note stuck to the reverse reads: ‘Choir outing to London 1950s.’ One of those present, John Brooke (Chorister 1953-6), recalls that the photo was taken somewhere off the A40 between Oxford and London: the choir was travelling to Westminster Abbey to form a massed choir for choral evensong with the Abbey choir and the choirs of New College and Christ Church. Brooke and another chorister, Roger Pryce, have identified several individuals in the photograph as follows: Roger Pryce (second from right, drinking from bottle); Andrew Hutchcroft (second from left, also drinking); Nicholas Brown (standing between and behind Hutchcroft and Pryce); Arthur Adams (DD. 1949-75, at the back, standing in front of open car door); and Organist Philip Taylor (O. 1942-57, on Adams’ left). Brooke is one of the boys towards the back of the photograph, though he is uncertain which one. For more information on this photograph see MC:P424/X7.
