MC:F29/1/MS6 Loose Notes from Student Notebooks
The following loose notes, letters, and cuttings were found throughout Greene’s Student Notebooks (MC:F29/1/MS5/1–5). As the notes relate to the content of the pages where they were inserted, the relevant page numbers of the notebooks appear after the initial description of the items. The items in MC:F29/1/MS6/1 are the loose notes from notebook MC:F29/1/MS5/1; those in MC:F29/1/MS6/2–3 are the loose notes from notebook MC:F29/1/MS5/2; those in MC:F29/1/MS6/4 are the loose notes from notebook MC:F29/1/MS5/3; those in MC:F29/1/MS6/5–14 are the loose notes from notebook MC:F29/1/MS5/4; and those in MC:F29/1/MS6/15–18 are the loose notes from notebook MC:F29/1/MS5/5.
Four items, the first of which is a printed freshmen’s list for Michaelmas Term 1893. The next two items are notes to Greene from C.B. [Charles Buller] Heberden of Brasenose College regarding the attendance and progress of Mr Nunn (dated 17 Nov 1893 and 9 Dec 1893). /5 Small card addressed to Greene from H. A. Wilson and dated ‘June 16th’, regarding a list of students (which is enclosed) that may appear at Collections. (3 items: envelope; card; loose sheet)
/6 Two genealogical tables of Buselus. (2 items)
/7 Three lists of freshmen for 1907, 1908 and 1909 in which Greene has underlined in different colours those who achieved passes and those who achieved honours. (3 items)
/8 Printed sheets outlining the details of the formal assessment for Classical Moderations (Honours) for the early twentieth century. (2 items)
/9 Genealogical table of Euthymachus.
/10 Small printed invitation to Collections with hand written date of ‘Friday, June 19th’.
/11 Small sheet of paper on which Greene has written student names and times for Composition papers. The sheet of paper is dated 25 April 1910.
/12 A printed official letter (dated 26 July 1909) from Charles J. Lyall (Secretary, Judicial and Public Department) to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford regarding the appointment of Mr F.E. Pargiter to be Oxford Correspondent of the Bureau of information for Indian Students.
/13 Small sheet of paper containing short extracts in English from Virgil’s Eclogues and Georgics. The paper is dated June 1905.
/14 Genealogical table of Euxitheus.
Assorted notes and papers from MC:F29/1/MS5/5, tied up in a bundle and inserted at front of book, as follows:
/15 A small sheet of paper inscribed on one side with the note: ‘Magdalen College | Pupils and Marks | 1880–1910 | To be given to R.T. Günther, at his request (26th July, 1922), for the College Library.’ The other side is inscribed with the note, ‘H.W. Greene Esq. | With best thanks | S.A. Cooke.
