MC:PR33/1/1C Correspondence relating to ‘Cavalier and Puritan’; by H. E. Rollins
MC:PR33/1/1C/1 12 Apr 1924
Two-page, typed letter on printed, headed notepaper from Hyder E. Rollins (address English Dept., New York University College of Arts and Pure Science, University Heights, New York) to President Gordon. It is a reply to a review Gordon wrote for the Times of Rollins’ book Cavalier and Puritan. Rollins defends some of the points Gordon criticised, but also thanks him for having read his work thoroughly, and states that he intends to use some of the criticisms to help improve his future work.
MC:PR33/1/1C/2 26 Nov 1925
Small newspaper cutting from the Times Literary Supplement, containing a letter from A. E. H. Swain from Amsterdam. He writes quite humorously on Rollins’ Cavalier and Puritan, and helpfully provides information on where the tunes for two of the ballads in the book can be found, as Rollins himself was unable to do so himself.
1 page of notes in Gordon’s handwriting, most probably for his review of Rollins’ Cavalier and Puritan.
