MC:F34 Elliot Papers
Edwin Bailey Elliott (1851–1937) was educated at Magdalen College School and went up to Magdalen College in 1869 as a Demy. In 1874 he was elected a Fellow and Mathematical Tutor of Queen’s College, Oxford but returned to Magdalen in 1892, when he was appointed Waynflete Professor of Pure Mathematics, a post he held until his retirement in 1922. In addition to his mathematical work, Elliott was much involved in university life, serving on the Hebdomadal Council.
The only papers relating to Elliott in the archives of Magdalen College are a series of seventeen notebooks of mathematical exercises and a minute book of the Oxford Mathematical Society. It is not known when or by what means they were given to the College.
