Pencil portrait of Douglas by Walter Spindler, 280 by 190 mm. This was reproduced as the frontispiece of Douglas’s first collection of poetry, published in 1896. It shows Douglas’s head and neck, with Douglas looking to his left. Above the drawing is the inscription [in block capitals] ‘Alfred Bruce Douglas’, and below it ‘W.S. ∣ Nov ∣ 1895′. On the back of the frame was the inscription ‘by Walter Spindler ∣ given to me by More Adey O. D.’ [The second line is in Olive Douglas’ hand]
The painting is in a wooden frame, painted in a Japanese style.
