MC:F33/2/MS2 Manuscript of P.V.M. Benecke: “Some Remarks suggested by Laurie Magnus’s Book ‘Herbert Warren of Magdalen’”
Laurie Magnus’s volume on Warren: Herbert Warren of Magdalen : President and Friend (John Murray, 1932) was highly criticised by Benecke. Benecke believed that it was too soon to pass judgement on the ex-President of the college and that many aspects of Magnus’s work were either factually incorrect or misleading. This manuscript is an invaluable appendix for anyone reading Magnus’s work.
Handwritten MS, ‘Some remarks suggested by Laurie Magnus’s book ‘Herbert Warren of Magdalen’ by P.V.M. Benecke. [this is a draft of typescript MC:F33/2/MS2/2 below written on the reverse of chapel termcards and posters advertising concerts.]
