MC:P287/C6 Correspondence of A.B. Burney
MC:P287/C6/1 1st Nov. 1946
Letter from A.B. Burney (address 3 Chilston Road, Tunbridge Wells) to an unnamed academic, whom he addresses as ‘doctor.’ Burney thanks the doctor for his letter. He reports that he is packing and posting the Legge letters (as he calls this collection) to the librarian. He notes that he has given gifts to three libraries: one of Granville manuscripts and a ‘polite letter’ to Trinity Cambridge, the twenty volume Isham Boswell to the Guildhall and this collection to Magdalen. The doctor seems to have been researching who the reader was at the Temple in January 1784, and Burney is pleased that he has found the answer. A note in a different hand below the signature reads ‘Don’t retain.’
Sheet of paper with biographical information about Sir Walter Wagstaffe Bagot and and George Legge, Viscount Lewisham.
Biographical information on Heneage Legge. A note in pencil reads, ‘Reed. 19 Nov. 1946.’
