MC:P275/AR2 Seals of the Home Secretary
Red Box containing the Greater and Lesser Seals of the Home Secretary (there is a space for the Signet Seal, but this is not preserved). These seals were created in 1937 for the government of George VI, and were formally defaced in July 1954, when the new seals for Elizabeth II were issued. As explained in the documents below, David Maxwell Fyfe (later Lord Kilmuir) was then Home Secretary, and he, with Strutt’s assistance, arranged that the defaced seals be given to him as a souvenir. In 1955, when Maxwell Fyfe became Lord Chancellor, he presented the seals to Strutt, to join the rest of his collection.
