MC:P275 Memorabilia, mainly royal, of Sir Austin Strutt
Sir Henry Austin Strutt, K.C.V.O. 1953, C.B. 1949, M.A., J.P. (1903–1979) was an Exhibitioner at Magdalen 1921–4 and a Senior Demy here 1925–6. His career as a senior Civil Servant at the Home Office spanned 1925–61, and his work included the organization of the great occasions of state. He was Deputy Under-Secretary of State 1957–61 and Registrar of the Baronetage 1945–61. After retiring from the Home Office, he became a Director of the John Lewis Partnership Ltd. in 1962.
Sir Austin Strutt donated his collection in 1977. The memorabilia relating to the marriage ceremony of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales with The Lady Diana Spencer was donated by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office in 1981 to complement Sir Austin Strutt’s ‘Royal’ Collection.
