MC:P233/2/MS4 Books relating to Tubney Wood
MC:P233/2/MS4/2 also contains papers relating to the College property at Holywell Ford.
Small, red book with Game Book embossed in gold on the front cover. Inside the pages are divided into sections for date, place, number of guns, to mark the number of various game animals shot and a total column. Robert Gunther kept this record for Tubney Wood, Berkshire between 1889-1915. A typed note pasted into the front cover by Albert Gunther states that his father was, ‘granted Deputation as to Sporting Rights over Tubney Wood, County of Berkshire 26 May 1909’. Where the records prior to this date were found is unknown. Robert Gunther has stuck some prints inside the front cover and front page and has signed the book. There are notes by Robert Gunther on husbandry of the wood and some accounts notes.

Letters regarding the question of who is to hold the lease of Holywell Ford (dated 1905-1922). The correspondence and notes also touch on the issue of housing for Tutors in general.
10 page printed letter from Robert Gunther relating the story of his time at Magdalen, his achievements and his reminiscences.
Correspondence relating to Robert Gunther’s appointment as gamekeeper of Tubney Wood, Berkshire (belonging to the College) and his immediate difficulty with the agreement to let the Military Commission carry out manoeuvres on the land (1909). Also included are letters regarding shooting on the land, and of people to work with R. Gunther to manage the land. In addition there are invoices and accounts relating to the management of the wood.
