MC:P233/2/MS2 Scrapbooks of material on Magdalen College Buildings and other architecture
MC:P233/2/MS2/1 is a large scrapbook with marbled effect cover, compiled by Robert Gunther. There is a typed note by Albert Gunther explaining the contents of the book. He has also inserted into the scrapbook a transcript from the diary of Amy Gunther, wife of Robert Gunther, for 1896, 1902 and 1903 (relating to college architectural matters). The book contains handwritten and printed documents and reports, and photographs and pictures of College and University architecture, as well as some miscellany about architecture in general. Please refer to the list below for more detail.
MC:P233/2/MS2/2-5 comprises an envelope containing 6 items. On the envelope in typed and handwritten script (in Albert Gunther’s hand) is a list of what is contained within. It is addressed to Dr. Neil Ker (Fellow 1945-1968, Librarian 1956-1958). This helps show the provenance of the items, and dates Albert Gunther’s donation to the period 1956-1958, as it is likely that Albert Gunther wrote to Ker in his capacity as Librarian.
MC:P233/2/MS2/7 was donated to the archives by Albert Gunther, and was found during refurbishment of the Old Library on March 27th, 1992 and listed as accession number Acc 92/35. Inside the front cover is a typed note by Albert Gunther suggesting that the scrapbook was compiled by Robert Gunther; this is backed up by evidence of Robert Gunther’s handwritten notes on some of the pages. Albert Gunther has roughly dated the collection from 1892-1914.
