MC:F57/MS4 Papers relating to Hugh Sinclair (Fellow 1937-80)
Hugh Sinclair attended Oriel College from 1929–1932 and received a 1st Class degree in Natural Science (Physiol.). Sinclair was appointed a Fellow and Tutor of Magdalen in 1937 and retained this position until 1980. He also served as Senior Dean of Arts from 1942–1943, Vice President from 1956–57 and Director of the International Institute of Human Nutrition from 1972. Sinclair produced numerous publications, specialising on nutrition and health. He died in 1990. Magdalen has a collection of his papers as MC:F54. MC:F57/MS4/2 was found in MC:F57/MS4/1 along with a set of three photographs now in MC:F57/P2/1–3.

The dinner menu from the dinner held on July 8th 1987 in celebration of Sinclair’s fifty years as a Fellow of Magdalen. The menu contains a page of quotations, the menu itself and the seating plan for those in attendance.

A speech given by William “Bill” Jarvis (Second Chef, 1932–1978) after Sinclair’s dinner of July 8th 1987. Jarvis describes his time at Magdalen and his friendship with Sinclair. “Adams” is inscribed lightly on the back of the speech.
A publication entitled “The founders of modern nutrition: Sinclair. Dr Hugh Macdonald Sinclair DM DSc FRCP (1910– )”. The publication considers Sinclair’s life and work. Inside the publication is a compliments slip addressing the copy to Adams and Adams’ name is written at the top of the front cover.
