MC:P122 Two 17th century documents
These two documents were sent to Magdalen College in November 1955 by the British Records Association. Their exact provenances are listed below. They were passed on to Bruce McFarlane (F. 1927–66), who placed them in the archives, but they were never catalogued until they came to light in a box of unsorted papers in March 2011.

MC:P122/L1 – COPY OF COURT ROLL
This document was sent to Magdalen bearing the reference BRA 414, with a note that it came from a collection of papers presented by Hedley Norris & Co., solicitors, of 45 Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
MC:P122/L1/1 12 Oct 1659
Copy of a surrender and grant from the court records of Multon Hall, Lincs.
1. (a) Robert Hunt.
(b) John Foxe, two customary tenants of the manor.
2. Thomas Felgate.
3. Leonard Camock.
Property: One messuage, eight and a half acres and one rod of land and pasture lying in Kirton in a close called Sheldike in Bucklegate, whose boundaries were described in the court roll dated 12 Oct 41 Eliz I (1599).
Comments: 2 had surrendered this property to 1 out of court. It is now granted to 3.
MC:P122/C1 – LETTER FRAGMENT
This document was sent to Magdalen bearing the reference BRA 833, with a note that it came from “the large and miscellaneous collection of the late A. W. Turner of Brighton”.

Fragment of a letter from George Morley, Bishop of Winchester (address, Farnham Castle) to George Clerke, President of Magdalen College. The tone of the letter suggests that it was recommending someone for a Demyship or a Fellowship, but their name is not preserved.
