Withered Lilies v MCR Cricket match

12th June 2017

P1010661

On 21st May the Withered Lilies old-members’ cricket team played against the MCR team. The match was quite an occasion for Lilies’ cricket, it was a privilege to have Helen Baxendale, a ‘Blue’ for the last two years, in our side, especially so as she and Ines Forster (Lance’s daughter) ripped through the MCR batting.  Helen took 5-7 in 6 overs, including 2 wickets in 2 balls, and Ines 2-22 in 5 including the emotional moment of a stumping by her Dad, who also took two good catches.  Sean Elias came on to finish things off with 3-8, also including 2 wickets in 2 balls.

Earlier on we’d batted steadily for 136 (Nick Sayers 26, Helen 21 not out, and Robin Eagles 14). MCR were bowled out for 48.  As ever there was an excellent team spirit. Nigel Doggett and Sean starred in the field, and it was great to have Duncan Field (who’s also cheerleader in chief) and Robin back in the ranks and scoring runs. Poor Stuart Mackenzie was pushed down the order so he could lead the bowling attack, but hardly had the chance to bowl at all, and that with the best quality ball, which he’d campaigned for, we’ve probably ever had.
