Magdalen marks International Women’s Day
10th March 2017
The College marked International Women’s Day on 8th March, a day that celebrates and promotes action towards achieving the global goal of gender parity.
All Fellows, students, and staff of the College were invited to attended a reception, organised jointly by the Women’s Officers of the JCR, MCR, and Siân Pooley, the Tutor for Women Students and for Equal Opportunities. Rebecca Bates, a third year undergraduate historian, shared some of the findings of her recent research into the experiences of the first generation of female students at Magdalen who came up between 1979 and 1985. Rebecca’s important research, and the information she gained from interviewing this group of Magdalen alumni, highlighted how far the College has progressed to becoming the diverse and inclusive community it is today and gave current College members an opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and promote gender equality at Magdalen and beyond.
